The History of MOCA

Founded in 2003, the Museum of Contemporary Art proudly displays one of a kind pieces to create a one of a kind experience. This educational and sophisticated institution is dedicated to acquiring and exhibiting the finest modern and contemporary art from around the world to culturally enrich the lives of residents and millions of visitors of Hot Springs, Arkansas.

The Museum of Contemporary art was developed in the Spring of 2003. MOCA operated in a rental office with one manager. Committees were formed for fundraising, and future art exhibits were organized. Through private donations, the museum began to take shape. In 2009, MOCA opened its doors in the newly renovated Ozark Bathhouse.

The Museum of Contemporary Art is located on historical bathhouse row in Hot Springs, AR. The Ozark derived its name from the surrounding mountain range, then considered to be a part of the Ozark range, but is now known as the Ouachita Mountains. The National Park Service completed renovation on the Ozark enabling MOCA to move in February of 2009. The Museum of Contemporary Art at the Ozark features artists from all over the world with major exhibits changing quarterly and something new every few weeks.

MOCA is truly a unique combination of 1920's Colonial Revival architecture style filled with some of the world's finest contemporary art.
